Exhibition catalogue

Tayenebe is a South-eastern Tasmanian Aboriginal word that means 'exchange'. Between 2006 and 2009 more that 35 Tasmanian Aboriginal women and girls journeyed together in a process of cultural revival.

Meeting at diverse locations across Tasmania they reconnected with the cultural skills of Ancestors, exploring continuity and change across time between techniques, form and purpose in plant fibre work. Teaching and learning, sharing knowledge and stories, many women together have created this exhibition that celebrates the contemporary reinvigoration of Tasmanian Aboriginal fibre practices.
